Make Marketing Suck Less
How Dr. Robin Turned Fizzled Launches Into Customer Referrals in 90 Days

“It's like bringing a gift to somebody, and they just toss it to the side. And you're like, but I did it for you.”
That's how Dr. Robin Dickinson described her launches before she joined the Expert Up Club in March.
Robin is a family physician who now teaches pre-med and comprehensive sex ed to kids. Deep expertise, real mission, loyal families who love her work — and launches that landed with a thud.
If you've ever launched something you knew was good and didn’t make the sales you wanted, you know that exact feeling.
Ninety days ago, Robin was where you might be right now: wondering if the Club would actually work for her business. So if that's you — sitting on the fence, reading case studies, trying to figure out if this is your thing — this is the one to read.
Move one: she named the problem she solved
The first piece Robin submitted for feedback was a sales page for her sex ed program: Making More Humans. The word “sex” appeared nowhere on it.
She talked around it but never named what her families would be buying.
A previous advisor had gotten in her head — you're not going to talk about that, are you? — and she was afraid to put the word on the internet.
But buyers can't buy what you won't name. As Robin put it: “People are not searching 'embryology class for kids.' They're searching for sex ed. I needed to use the words people are searching, not the words in my head.”
This fear runs deep for experts, because you built something new to fill a gap only you could see — which means nobody knows to search for it. A Google Ads consultant once told Robin flatly that “pre-med for kids” doesn't exist as a search term. Her response: “So if nobody searches for it, how do I find them?”
That's what messaging fixes. When you name the problem in the words your buyer is already using, the thing you built stops being a hidden gem. People can search for it. And when they find it, they know exactly what they're looking at.
Move two: she found her missing doors
When Robin ran her business through the 3 Doors Method — Grow, Engage, Offer — she saw the problem in about a minute.
She was brilliant at Engage. Her families open her emails, reply, feel known by name. They trust her.
And Engage alone wasn't growing her revenue. Her words: “Having people like me and trust me is great, but I'm not changing their life unless I can make an offer and they can take it. I can't change the world unless I grow and bring people in.”
So she built a filter. Three core messages — MedPath (pre-med for kids), LifePath (human biology), and Making More Humans (sex ed) — crossed with three doors. If a piece of content didn't fit, it didn't ship. She cleaned up her YouTube channel. She redid the scattered corners of her blog. “Everything else was just noise.”
That's Do Less But Better in action: not doing less because you're exhausted, but because you finally know which activities matter and which ones you can safely ditch.
Move three: she used the whole Club
Robin brought her first podcast pitches to a hot seat, and the group told her — kindly — that they weren't working. They were too long and she was going to lose the host immediately.
She rewrote them. Now she's booking interviews with niche podcasts, building genuine relationships with hosts, and enjoying it.
That's the part of the Club you can't sees from the outside: it's not a course you consume. It's a room of experts who will tell you the truth about your ideas before the market tells you the expensive way.
The results, 90 days in
I want to be careful here, because Robin asked me not to share her revenue numbers publicly, and real case studies respect that. So here's what I can tell you, and every word of it is verified:
Her course sales have climbed every month since she joined in March. She showed me the chart. The line only goes one direction (up).
Her last two launches did what her previous launches never did. People bought during early access. Then they emailed her about how good it was. Then customers who bought one program came back and bought the next one.
Longtime families finally saw her. People who'd been on her list for years said, “I didn't know this was available.” She'd been telling them the whole time — but until the message was clear, they couldn't hear it.
Her customers started referring her. A customer emailed to say she'd just recommended the program to two specific groups who'd be a perfect fit. Robin's reaction: “My messaging is clear enough — she knew who to tell.” That one matters most, because referability is the engine. When your message spreads without you in the room, growth stops depending on you marketing your face off.
The on-demand side of her business is growing for the first time — which, for Robin, isn't a vanity metric. Her health means she can't keep teaching live forever. This is the business model she needs to keep doing the work at all.
The caveat Robin insisted on
When I asked Robin about her results, the first thing she said was this: “Your results may vary. I threw myself in completely. If you're going to sign up, do your work — because it works, but it means you have to do it.”
She showed up to nearly every call she could. She brought ideas in and let the group tell her when they wouldn't fly. She revised. I'm keeping her caveat in because it's true, and because it tells you who the Club is for: experts willing to work on their business with people who can see what they can't.
Ninety days from now, you'll be somewhere. The question is whether you'll be 90 days into clearer messaging and a business that's finally growing in the right direction — or still where you are today, planning to get to it.
