Make Marketing Suck Less

Assess for Success Means Looking Forward and Back

Happy New Year!

I'm not a big resolution type of girl, but I do find the New Year a great time to look forward to the upcoming 12 months. It's also an excellent time to reflect on what when right and what went out of whack in 2012. When I  started this blog, I put 7 goals out to the universe. Let's see how well I did.

New Year New Goals

New Year New Goals

1. Grow my readership of Relationally Speaking. Yep, I survived my first year! Found you! Found my tribe. Excited to see what 2013 brings for my baby blog

2. Develop content that is unique, intriguing and helpful. I wrote post about Public Speaking Lessons from Zombies, Leadership Lessons from Sneetches and told you what Duran Duran can do for your public speaking skills. I'm nothing if not unique.

3. Join an advanced Toastmasters club – speaking is a skill that requires continuous improvement and Toastmasters is the perfect place for feedback and lifelong learning. Done! I'm actually now the president – over achiever

4. Take a 5-7 minute speech and turn it into a keynote presentation then give it somewhere/anywhere – thinking about this overwhelms me but I can do it! Didn't do – didn't even start to do.

5. Compete and win at the World Championship of Public Speaking. Competed –  did not win, but I made it to the District stage not a bad run. Quite pleased.

6.  Master the skill of marketing. Well this one was a BIG goal. I've not mastered, but I learned a hell of a lot about marketing in 2012.

7. Mentor more speakers in the art of public speaking.  I am looking to do more of this always. If you or anyone you know wants to sharpen their message and refine their skills in 2013 send them my way for coaching and fun

As I move forward int 2013 – I'm taking goals 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7 with me. Those goals are ongoing commitments to you, to myself and to my business.

Goals for 2013

1. My book Imperfekt Communikation (I'm sure my copy editor friend just harakiri'd herself). It's tome dedicated to leading, speaking and screwing up all along the way.

2. Master Google + as it is the social media platform of the future (and great for blogging SEO).

3. Guest post more and find more people to guest post on Relationally Speaking. Interested in guest posting? Click here to learn more or just email me with topics ideas.

4. Speak and speak some more – find at least 5 opportunities to speak outside of Toastmasters.

5. Get my ever expanding butt back to the gym. (Personal goal but I need to make it public so I am accountable). I use to be so good about going to the gym. Now if I get there 2 times a week I hear the theme of Rocky in my head.

How did you do with you speaking, leading and business goals in 2012? What lies ahead for you in the new year? Share it and I'll hold your accountable.

Find my voice & share it – ie. discover what unique ideas abilities I have and share them.

Great goals, Michelle. And when you get to wrapping up that book, come visit us on Hecklers’ Hangout to promote it a bit amongst friends.

Even discussing public speaking could be a great topic.

I’ve got the gym thing down. This is the year I experiment a little more with cutting some things out of the diet.

Hi Brian! I’d love to hang out with you all on Hecklers Hangout. I’ve been meaning to stop by and check it out. If you ever want someone to discuss public speaking or persuasion, I’m your chick!

My goal is to get to the gym 4 times a week. It is doable. The food thing I need to watch quickly as well!
